Fair Trade Products

We frequently get asked what fair trade products are. Wikipedia describes fair trade as "an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries make better trading conditions and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as higher social and environmental standards. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts." We carry a wide range of fair trade products, mostly from Nepal and various African countries. When you purchase a fair trade product you know you're helping a family in a developing country make a decent wage while working in humane conditions. In many cases, you are also keeping traditional skills alive that otherwise might be lost to the changes brought by both conflict and modernization. We also find that fair trade products are usually of higher quality than comparable products that aren't fair trade. Tango Zulu is proud to carry fair trade products for all these reasons. We aim to be the premier fair trade store in Washington state, and hopefully beyond!
